The Power of Tea Tree Essential Oil

Tea tree oil, also known as melaleuca oil is a very pale (almost clear) golden color essential oil. The term “tea tree oil” is somewhat misleading since Melaleuca alternifolia is a paperbark rather than a tea tree. Tea tree oil is not the same as tea oil, the sweet seasoning and cooking oil from pressed seeds of the tea plant Camellia sinensis an it should also not be confused with the tea oil plant Camellia oleifera.
Tea tree oil is most commonly produced as a pure essential oil. You should not confuse Tea tree oil with Chinese tea oil, cajeput oil, kanuka oil, manuka oil, ti tree oil, and niauouli oil.
Tea tree oil comes from the Australian paperbark tree and was used as a folk remedy by Australian aborigines. Whereas with some herbs there is no hard data to prove their effectiveness there are actually documented studies proving the benefits of Tea Tree Oil and natural remedies containing Tea Tree Oil.
Tea tree oils are disinfectant, antibiotic, and clear up facial skin infected with boils. The Australian aboriginals apply Tea tree leaves directly to wounds that are infected, burned, or otherwise injured. Tea Tree oils are steamed distilled from the plant’s leaves. Tea tree essential oil is also used as wonderful massage oil. Tee Tree oil is for external use only.
Caution: Pregnant women are advised not to use Tea tree oils. Ingesting Tea tree oil can be dangerous and a medical doctor should be consulted.
Athlete’s Foot -A randomized controlled trial using a 25% tea tree oil solution, 50% tea tree oil solution, or a placebo (no medication) was conducted including 158 people with athlete’s foot. A third double-blind study compared a 100% tea tree oil to a topical antifungal called clotrimazole in 112 people with fungal infections of the toenails. The tea tree oil proved to be as effective as the antifungal cream.
